Managing your diabetes can be overwhelming, confusing and just plain difficult. Diabetes meal planning is very crucial to managing your diabetes. The primary reasons you should be properly planning your meals, instead of mindlessly throwing food together, or worse still, running through the fast food drive-through, are as follows:
• Lower your blood glucose (sugar) level
• Lower your blood fat (cholesterol) level
• Lower your blood pressure
• Help you to lose or maintain weight
• Improve your feeling of well being
But meal planning is more than ensuring the right amount of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Are you sure your diet is meeting your vitamin and mineral requirements. Sure, you can take a multi-vitamin or multi-mineral supplement, however, that should only supplement what you get from your food. Proper diabetes meal planning can help you make sure that your blood sugar and cholesterol levels are low.

The role of vitamins and nutrition has been known for some time. But is there such a thing as a health vitamin? That one substance that can reverse aging, restore sagging energy levels, in other words, is the fountain of youth?
Any discussion of vitamins almost always includes minerals. When nutritionists consider the role of vitamins, minerals, and other substances, the conclusion is that vitamins and minerals are essential to bodily function and to good health.
In fact, the most persuasive argument for eating organic food is because the mineral content of organically grown food is much higher than that of conventional produce. This is most likely due to the fact that organic farmers tend to rebuild the soil and not just stimulate the plant.

Out of all the macronutrients, fats would have to be the focus of attention. The food and fitness industry seems to tweak it’s marketing strategies all the time and has decided “fat-free” products are all the rage. And yet we in the Western world, the population continues to get bigger and bigger with each year that passes
The truth of the matter is that fat intake is necessary for normal brain development during infancy and early childhood. As you mature into adulthood, fat supports growth, insulates your body, and provides energy. In fact, at nine calories per gram, fat is the most concentrated energy source available in your diet.
The down side is that after about two years of age your body requires only a minimum amount of fat. You receive more than adequate amounts through the foods you eat. Eating dietary fat in excessive amounts is a leading cause of obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and several other destructive health problems.
Fats are built from components called fatty acids. These are held together by hydrogen atoms to form chains. There are three main types of fats, saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated.

Botulism is a life-threatening disease. If a person is found to be infected with botulism, he or she should be immediately admitted to a hospital. The patient should be monitored closely, especially for signs of paralysis and respiratory distress.
One of the first things to do for patients with botulism is to remove the source of the toxin whenever possible. If the patient was infected through food, the patient may be given an enema to induce bowel movements, or an emetic to induce vomiting. Both attempt to purge the digestive system of contaminated food, preventing further infection. On the other hand, if the patient was infected through a wound, the infected tissue may be surgically removed. Antibiotics may also be given for the wound, aiding faster healing.
It is important to diagnose the condition early. Patients should be given a botulism antitoxin as soon as the diagnosis is established. The antitoxin blocks the action of the toxin, and helps prevent the progression of the disease and further complications. For infant botulism, patients may be given a special botulism immune globulin, known as BabyBIG, if it is available.

The rate of bipolar disorder diagnosis has risen dramatically in the past twenty years. Some of this may be related to de-stigmatizing mental illness and better awareness from the medical community. But there may be another explanation.
There have been several subcategories of manic-depression developed to provide a better or clearer diagnosis of individual symptoms.
Of the specific diagnoses, there is Bipolar 1 which is the typical Manic–Depressive fluctuations in mood and behavior. The person experiences alternating depression associated with extreme swings in thought and inability to perform daily activities with periods of mania. In the manic phase, sleep is not possible, impulse control issues with spending, physical relationships, really all decision making is accelerated as is speech and thought.
Another type is Bipolar 2 which requires at least one manic and one depressive episode, but the depressive symptoms are more significant and more severe than the manic phases.
Cyclothymic Personality Disorder is in the bipolar spectrum, however, the depth of mood swings are less than Bipolar 1 or 2. These folks generally live full productive lives and are often hyper-productive.
It has been estimated that between 2.5 and 5% of the population carry a bipolar diagnosis.
